Verdict
I like this remix very much, but the young audience of the early 2000s obviously expected a fireworks of effects and sounds a' la "Elvis vs JXL: A Little Less Conversation".

The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age
To repeat the success of "Elvis vs JXL - A Little Less Conversation" BMG followed up with "Rubberneckin'" in 2003. In the USA it stalled at number 94 of the Billboard Charts, but became a top10 or top20 hit in several European countries. Even though the single was successful and sold well, the figures were a far cry from the previous remake.
On the streaming platforms "Rubberneckin'" is available in 44.1 kHz / 16 bit. On Spotify the remix clocks in at a tad below 5 million streams.
Rubberneckin'
Elvis taped the song on January 20, 1969 at American Sound Studio in Memphis/Tennessee. At the end of the year it was released on a single together with "Don't Cry Daddy" and also appeared in the Universal production "Change Of Habit". The remix by Paul Oakenfold brings the rhythm and the effects to the fore and also includes a nice dance beat. It's not as much "in your face" as "Elvis vs JXL: A Little Less Conversation".
