The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

In March 1976 Elvis had filled Johnson City's Freedom Hall three times in a row, so he returned on February 19, 1977 for another visit. With no more than 7,000 seats the venue was comparatively small, so the sell-out wasn't much of a surprise. It is rumored, that Colonel Parker tried to book the venue for the afternoon, too, but was turned down because it already had been reserved for a local high school basketball tournament. For the show Elvis wore the "Embroidered Arabian Suit" in combination with the belt of the "V-Neck Suit".

If You Love Me (Let Me Know)

Yesterday Elvis has performed "Fairytale" at this point of his show, now he opts for "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)". He sings the song well, his voice sounds less strained than the day before.

You Gave Me A Mountain

The country pop is followed by the soap opera "You Gave Me A Mountain". It's not as good as on the album "Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite", but in general a satisfactory presentation.

Jailhouse Rock

After two more or less recent songs Elvis moves on to his glory days. He admits to have been a couple of years younger when he recorded "Jailhouse Rock", but promises to try. The intro is a bit longer because the king needs a zip of water first. When he finally starts to sing he quickly stops and claims to have ice in his throat. However, the second attempt works well.

O Sole Mio / It's Now Or Never

Now the king announces Sherrill Nielsen with a performace of "O Sole Mio", the song his sales giant "It's Now Or Never" is based on. Elvis himselvis offers a solid performance, but we've heared stronger ones. His voice isn't back to 100% yet.

Little Sister

"I'd like to do a medley of some of my records for you, starting with LITTLE SISTER" says Elvis. In contrast to the announcement the man from Memphis doesn't perform a medley, but simply the song "Little Sister". Nevertheless it's a good rendition.

Teddy Bear / Don't Be Cruel

It's followed by a real medley, two songs segued together, but this time without an introduction. Elvis comes in late and spends his time handing out scarfs instead of delivering proper performances. His fans are fine with such antics, they would also be fine with watching their idol picking his nose for an hour.

My Way

Thankfully Elvis quickly returns to real music. He has to read the first verse from a sheet, but the performance itself isn't bad at all.

Hurt

During the actual concert Elvis took almost 15 minutes to introduce the band and the singers. The recording skips this part and fades in during the first verse of "Hurt". It's a nice presentation, afterwards the king asks his fans, if they want to hear the last part again. Without waiting for an answer he reprises the grande finale. But then he takes another break and asks Sherrill Nielsen to sing "Danny Boy" and "Walk With Me". FTD's "The Last Tours - Volume 1" ommits this part, too.

Polk Salad Annie

So we continue with "Polk Salad Annie", the next song Elvis actually presented himself. Despite being very well rested the king cannot move nearly as fast and smooth as in the movie "That's The Way It Is". But he obviously enjoys performing the song and even includes some karate moves...or what's left of them.

Can't Help Falling In Love

Now Elvis introduces the reigning Miss Tennessee, who happens to be the sister of his current girlfriend Ginger Alden. Then he quickly says "Take it home" and bows out with the usual "Can't Help Falling In Love". To leave so soon after having taken so many breaks certainly can considered to be an impudence. But maybe there simply wasn't more energy left and so it may have been a fortunate coincidence, that he hadn't to do two shows on a single day.
