Verdict
The commercial failture doesn't change the quality of the tracks. "Bringing It Back" / "Pieces Of My Life" is a strong single.

The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age
On September 20, 1975 RCA released a second single from the album "Elvis Today". On October 18th "Pieces Of My Life" entered the "Hot Country Singles Chart", had a run of 10 weeks and peaked at number 33. "Bringing It Back", the supposed a-side, was first listed on the "Hot 100" on October 25th at number 88. It stayed on the hitparade for five weeks and reached number 65. Abroad the record generated even less interest, the only exception was Malaysia, where Elvis was able to score a number one hit with "Bringing It Back". Globally RCA sold 300,000 units, which translates to 45 million paid streams. Therefore this 45 turned out to be one of the biggest flops in Elvis' career. Today the tracks remain comparatively unpopular. On Spotify the were streamed around 700,000 (Bringing It Back) and 1.9 million (Pieces Of My Life) times.
To generate a recognition value RCA more or less copied the artwork of the album "Elvis Today". Of course there was also a banner to promote the longplayer.
On the streaming platforms the single is not available, as both songs are included on the "Elvis Today" album.
The purpose of the release was simply to benefit from Brenda Lee's version of "Bringing It Back", that was on the charts in the fall of 1975. RCA's strategy was the same as in the 1960s, when the label threw Elvis' versions of "Suspicion" and "Such A Night" on the market, because someone else was successful with these songs. The label simply jumped on the bandwagon and hoped that some people preferred to hear Elvis sing these songs. A decade ago it had worked just fine, but in 1975 it obviously did not. However, even a release like this generated money, because the tracks already had earned their costs back through the album.
Bringing It Back
The sentimental ballad was written by Greg Gordon and recorded in January 1975 by Brenda Lee. Elvis taped his version on March 12, 1975 within four takes. On April 8th the bass track was re-recorded, harmony vocals were added the following day. On April 14th the track was further enhanced with strings. Even though Brenda Lee was the first to record "Bringing It Back", Elvis was the first to release the song.
Pieces Of My LifeOne could really believe, that this is Elvis' life confession. His career as a singer, the women, the failed marriage. Everything is there. If the waterglass full of whiskey was substituted by a handfull of pills it would fit in every detail. On top of that the king performs the song with much emotion, it seems he takes the listener into his confidence. In fact, "Pieces Of My Life" has nothing to do with Elvis at all. It was written by Troy Seals, who also released the song in 1973 on an album. The king recorded it on March 12, 1975, the fourth take was approved for post production. On April 8th the bass track was re-recorded, six days later strings were added.
The commercial failture doesn't change the quality of the tracks. "Bringing It Back" / "Pieces Of My Life" is a strong single.
