Verdict
The a-side was anything but a potential hit and the flipside appeared outdated in the world of Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. However, "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" is a great track that saves this release.

The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age
To promote the movie "Double Trouble" and the accompanying soundtrack album RCA Victor released "Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)" / "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" on April 28, 1967. Selling 275,000 copies "Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)" entered Billboard's "Hot 100" on May 20th at number 87, stayed on the chart for five weeks and peaked at number 63. On May 27th "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" entered the chart, too. But the ballad just stayed for a single week and never made it past number 92. Outside the US the sales were not much better, in total just 500,000 fans picked up the release. Translated to the present that would be 75 million streams. For Elvis this was a new negative record. No previous RCA single with new songs had sold that bad. In the present "Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)" didn't even manage to generate more than half a million streams on Spotify, which is quite abysmal for the leading track of a single. "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" was streamed twice as many times. I guess because it's also included on the "Pot Luck With Elvis" album from 1962.
Even though promo shots for "Double Trouble" had been made and the king looked good, Colonel Parker and RCA continued to use photos made in conjunction with "Spinout". Of course the forthcoming soundtack album was promoted, too.
On the streaming platforms this single is not avaiable, but "Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)" can be found on the albums "Double Trouble" (1967) and "Almost In Love" (1970). "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" can be found on the "Pot Luck With Elvis" album (1962).
Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)
The singer tells us about the hardships of his search for the girl with the long legs and the short frock. The rocking melody and the edgy electric guitar were supposed to sound modern, but still "Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)" never leaves the level of a mediocre movie tune. Elvis recorded the song on June 29, 1966 at the MGM Soundstage. The fifth take became the master.
That's Someone You'll Never ForgetObviously not trusting the quality of the soundtrack recordings the label decided to put "That's Someone You'll Never Forget", a track from the five years old album "Pot Luck With Elvis", on the flipside. The king himself came up with that title and asked Red West to write a song of that name. Even though that was is only contribution, he was named as one of the composers and given 50% of the royalties. This might have been another reason to release this song on a single. The song itself can be considered a lovesong, but in fact Elvis was commemorating his mother. "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" is well written and extremely well performed.
The a-side was anything but a potential hit and the flipside appeared outdated in the world of Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. However, "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" is a great track that saves this release.
