The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

Since March 24, 1958 Elvis Aron Presley served the US Army, but of course that didn't stop RCA Victor from releasing new material. On April 21st both sindes of his latest single entered the "Hot 100". "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" started at number 7, was listed 15 times and peaked at number 3. "Doncha' Think It's Time" stayed for six weeks and climbed from number 74 to number 21. In the US the single sold more than a million copies, which was honored by the RIAA in 1983 with a Gold Award. In 1992 the organization granted an update to Platinum. In the UK "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" peaked at number 3, in continental Europe the 45 sold well, too. Globally two million copies went over the counters, which equals 300 million paid streams. Therefore the single was a hit, but neither Elvis, nor Colonel Parker or the management of RCA Victor failed to realize that the sales of "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" / "Doncha' Think It's Time" were a thrid below the previous single. Today the title track of this single accumulates 5.8 million streams on Spotify. "Doncha' Think It's Time" is far less popular and didn't even pass the million mark.

The sleeve was designed with a promo picture for Elvis' forthcoming movie "King Creole". The backside promoted previous releases of the king.

The single itself can't be found on the streaming platforms. But both songs are included on the album "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 2".

Wear My Ring Around Your Neck

Once again Elvis proved to be the one and only king of rock'n'roll. The song was written by Bert Carroll and Russell Moody and recorded by Elvis on February 1, 1958 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood/California. Take 22 was selected for release, on February 26th a guitar, a piano and percussion were overdubbed. RCA Victor released "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" on the album "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 2", on the ep "A Touch Of Gold - Volume 2" (both 1959) and on the boxed set "Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits - Volume 1" (1970).

Doncha' Think It's Time

The slow popsong showed another side of the singer. Elvis worked hard on the tune by Clyde Otis and Willie Dixon, but couldn't come up with a satisfactory take. So the master was a splice of the takes 47, 40 and 48. For the album  "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 2" RCA Victor created an alternate master, using the takes 40 and 39. This track was also released on "The Other Sides - Worldwide Gold Award Hits Volume 2". I like the song very much, today it's unfortunately somewhat forgotten.

Verdict

With "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" / "Doncha' Think It's Time" Elvis released another appealing single.
