When Elvis entered RCA's Studio B in Nashville on February 24th at 11:30 pm he hadn't recorded any music since eight months. The first song on the agenda was an uptempo-tune called "Shake That Tambourine". As it turned out, it took so long to record the track, that it remained the only song the group got to work on until 3:30 am on February 25th. Nevertheless Elvis wasn't able to produce a complete, satisfactory take.

Shake That Tambourine (take 1-41)

Of the 41 (!) takes just seven are complete performances. The first complete one is number eleven, all the others are false starts. One time Elvis jokingly asked "What tambourine?", on another occation he mistakenly sang "teeny feet" instead of "tiny feet" and had to laugh about his mistake. This unintended joke caused several more false starts. In general this is a long-lasting and boring affair. Just like during the sessions for the "Girl Happy" soundtrack the artist isn't focused and spends hours on false starts and pure drivel. Finally none of the seven complete takes were good enough for release and so a splice of take 41 and take 27 had to be produced.
