In August 2018 Follow That Dream Records tried something new and released "The VIVA LAS VEGAS Sessions". It marked the first time, that the label presented a boxed set with a complete recording session. The set was received very well and so "The FUN IN ACAPULCO Sessions" followed in March 2019. At the time the compact disc was down to a market share of 30%, but Sony's own collector's label didn't bother to release the set digitally.

The artwork mirrored the one of the previous set. The cover was designed in the style of an old tape box, inside there was a digipak with the sound carriers, which also mirrored the look of a tape box. It was accompanied by a smart looking, informative booklet.

Back in 2003 "Fun In Acapulco" had been one of the first collector's editions of classic Presley albums. At the time these editions featured just a single disc with the tracks of the original longplayer as well as some outtakes. Lene Reidel was responsible for the remastering, later the tracks were reworked by Vic Anesini in 2006/2007 for a project called "The Complete Elvis Presley Masters" and once again in 2016 for a boxed set named "The RCA Album Collection". For FTD's sessions-project Sebastian Jeansson was hired for the audio restauration material, Vic Anesini joined him for the mixing process. The result sounds nothing but stunning, one really gets the impression, that the stuff was recorded yesterday.

Verdict

The material is a tad on the lightweight side, but it's performed very well and the audio quality could not be better.
