The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

On September 18, 2007 Warner Brothers released a blu ray edition of "Viva Las Vegas".

Video

The 1080p transfer looks very clean, no bits of grain or dust can be found. The colors look flashy and vibrant and a lot of details are revealed. However, on distance shots the picture tends to soften a bit. I am pretty sure, that a new mastering taken from a recent 4k scan of the original negatives would look better, but in general there is not much to complain here.

Audio

The soundtrack is available in Dolby Surround 5.1 and True HD 5.1. Of course there is not too much going on in the rear, but the surround versions open up the space quite a bit.

Extras

The release features an audio commentary by Steve Pond, author of "Elvis In Hollywood" and a featurette called "Kingdom: Elvis In Las Vegas". Of course the original trailer can be watched, too.

Verdict

The stylized, vibrant colors virtually jump off the screen and the audio is quite solid. I guess a re-release as part of the "Warner Archive Collection" would be superior, but even this old incarnation from 2007 is a joyful experience.
