Verdict
Paramount's hd incarnation of "Blue Hawaii" offers stellar picture quality, solid 5.1 audio and a commentary by a competent historian. It cannot get any better.

On November 15, 2022 Paramount released not just a hd version, but also a 4k incarnation of "Blue Hawaii".
Just like Warner had done before, Paramount scanned the original negatives with 4k/16 bit equipment. Because originally a grainy celluloid copy was used for the title sequence, Paramount replaced these bits and pieces with newly scanned and cleaned up copies of the original negatives and also re-did the text-overlays. So now 100% of the movie has a consistant video quality. And it's really top notch! There's no dust, grain or damage anywhere and everything looks sharp and detailed. The colors are natural and bright, so one really can enjoy the exotic scenery as well as everything else.
Next to the original Dolby Digital Mono 2.0 soundtrack, there's also a Dolby True HD 5.1 version. As usual there's not much going on in the rear, but it adds some natural space to the dialogues and sounds.
The blu ray also features a commentary by James L. Neibaur, a photo album and the original trailer.
