20th Century Fox releaed their hd icarnation of "Love Me Tender" on July 30, 2013.
The 1080p/AVC image is sharp, accurately balanced and true to the source. The whites, blacks and everything in-between are on point and there are no signs of any wear and tear of the old nagatives. To make it short: "Love Me Tender" looks as great as a black/white movie from 1956 can look.
While purists may enjoy the DTS HD Mono soundtrack others may prefer the DTS HD 5.1 version. Due to the age of the movie there's not much going on in the back, but the surround track adds some ambience. In general everything sounds very good with no hiss or other distortions. Only during lound music sequences, for example when a choir joins in at the finale, the high end sounds a little brittle at times. But that doesn't happen very often, so in general the soundtrack is more than solid. By the way: The German dub is also available in 5.1.
Besides the original trailer and the Spanish trailer we get four featurettes. Namely "Elvis Hits Hollywood", "The Colonel & The King", "Love Me Tender: The Birth And Boom Of Elvis' Hit" and "Love Me Tender: The Soundtrack". There's also an audio commentary of Memphis Mafiosi Jerry Schilling, who gives a historic and personal background on "Love Me Tender" and his time with Elvis.
