Verdict
Considering the man was just three months shy of leaving the planet, both concerts are solid affairs. Certainly the presence of the CBS team motivated Elvis to try a bit harder.

The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age
In 2010 Sony's own collector's label Follow That Dream Records released an album called "Chicago Stadium", which featured the two concerts Elvis gave there in October 1976. Two years later Straight Arrow followed up with "Chicago Double-Strike", presenting the pair of shows the king performed in Windy City in 1977. This time the concerts were not recorded through the mixing desk of the sound engineer, but by a fan in the audience. Therefore the audio quality is inferior, but considering the source the recordings still sound very good. The sound carriers are housed in a fold-out 5" digipak, containing liner notes and photos.
Due to the huge demand for tickets in October 1976 (Elvis sold out the 20,000 seater twice in a row and still could not meet the requests) it was decided to return to Chicago as early as May 1977 and book the venue for another two nights. For the concert on May 1st all 20,000 tickets sold out in advance, but on the following night there were about 400 empty seats. However, I am pretty sure that Presley and Parker could live with an utilization of 98%. I am also convinced, that the box office was just a hair below the one from October 1976. On May 1st Elvis wore the "Embroidered Arabian Suit", on May 2nd the used the "Mexican Sundial Suit". The first concert was visited by the production team of the forthcoming television special "Elvis In Concert". The shootings were planned for June and the CBS people wanted to get an impression of the current Presley show.
