Exactly three years before he passed away
Elvis rehearsed at the RCA studio on Sunset
Boulevard in Los Angeles to give his show a
major update. It turned out to be the last time
he would do so. To be able to listen to the
results at home, he had the session taped.
However, the audio mix is strange. Elvis and the
harmony singers are too much in the foreground
while everything else is too low in the mix.
Nevertheless it's fascinating to hear the king and
his crew working out the performances we all
know. The only letdown is, that the guys behind
FTD (namely Ernst M. Jorgensen and Roger Semon)
decided to shorten the rehearsal session without
any need to do so.
Follow That Dream Records released the
rehearsal session in 2009 on a double album
called "From Sunset To Vegas". The sound
carriers are housed in a fold-out digipak, whose
design looks very 1970ish. It certainly fits the
content. As a bonus FTD has added several live
performances, which were recorded during the
"Elvis Summer Festival 1974". They are less
interesting, but offer the better sonic
experience.

Verdict
A rehearsal session as well as accordant
live recordings, combined in a well designed
packaging. The only letdown is the fact,
that the rehearsal was shortened without any
reason.
