The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

The summer of 2023 saw the release of a 3-cd-set called "Houston, Fort Worth, Baton Rouge 1974".  As usual the sound carriers were housed in a 5" digipak, designed with photos from the accordant concerts. Soundwise the concert in Houston is the best, it's also the most interesting one due to the absence of the orchestra. The other recordings sound a tad muffled, but in the past we've had far worse soundboard recordings. So in general this is a solid release. It might not surprise you, that Follow That Dream Records didn't produce a digital release, even though the compact disc was a zombie format in 2023.

But what's on the discs? The first show was taped on March 3rd during the king's evening performance at The Houston Astrodome in...welll...Houston/Texas. The second one was recorded at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth/Texas on June 15th, also during the evening show. The third personal appearance on this boxed set took place on June 17th at the Louisiana State Assembly Center in Baton Rouge/Louisiana.

Since the concerts took place in a short period of time, it won't surprise anyone, that the set lists don't differ all that much. Give or take a concert standard here and there the only real difference is "Big Boss Man", which was included in April. For details just tap on the links below:

Houston/Texas: March 3, 1974    Fort Worth/Texas: June 15, 1974    Baton Rouge/Louisiana: June 17, 1974

Verdict

During the first half of 1974 the king's concerts were of solid quality and the same applies to the ones selected for this set.
