The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

See See Rider

Once again the sound engineer didn't record the intro. Elvis, now dressed in his "Turquise Phoenix Suit", performs with more zest than during the previous show. It's no surprise, because he usually slept until 4 pm and therefore a concert at 2:30 pm to him must have been like having to appear on stage in the middle of the night.

I Got A Woman / Amen

Elvis sings the word "well" in different pitches and is "answered" by James Burton's electric guitar. When a woman suddenly screams "Elviiiiiiiiis", the king answers in the same pitch "whaaaaat?". The Ray Charles hit "I Got A Woman" gets a good rendition, of course Elvis also includes the gospel "Amen" and the presentation of his 1950's moves. He answers the delight of the audience by asking them not to make fun of his handicap. After some more jokes and JD Sumner's demonstration of his bass voice the king returns to "I Got A Woman" and gives his guitar back to Charlie Hodge. When a fan keeps up a sign reading "England Loves You" Elvis reacts with a surprised "I thought I was in Texas". Afterwards he officially welcomes the audience and introduces himself as Avis Paisley.

Love Me

The ballad is sung the usual way. Elvis remarks "You sound like you're in a good mood, we're gonna keep it that way".

Trying To Get To You

The SUN classic is performed with vigor. In-between Elvis changes the line "I kept running all the way" to "I kept streaking all the way", which amuses the audience.

All Shook Up

In contrast to the previous song "All Shook Up" is a routine performance.

Love Me Tender

Now the king announces "My first movie was VIVA LAS...ah...LOVE ME TENDER" and delivers the ultimate highlight for all the ladies in the audience. Once again it's a very business-like performance, but Elvis hands out scarfs and kisses some of the females at the edge of the stage. The fans love it.

Hound Dog

They also love "Hound Dog", but in this case for no obvious reason. The former king of rock'n'roll simply repeates the same four lines over and over again and doesn't even try to fake any interest in the tune.

Fever

Thankfully "Fever" is a different matter altogether. With calculated moves Elvis makes the ladies scream. After the line "I light up when you call my name" he imitates them and screams "Elviiiiiiiiis". He also pretents to have lost control over his legs. It's an entertaining affair.

Polk Salad Annie

Suddenly the bass-intro of "Polk Salad Annie" fills the room and Elvis comments "Ride the horse". Compared to the movie "That's The Way It Is" (1970) it's a toned-down performance, but the king still presents a bit of Body English and a few karate figures. Afterwards he remarks "My belt's falling off, my suit's getting too big" and announces JD Sumner & The Stamps with the gospel "Why Me Lord".

Why Me, Lord

Here Mr. Sumner takes over the lead vocals, while Elvis joins The Stamps for the chorus. Jokingly he replaces "Jesus" with "JD" and sings "JD, my soul's in your hands". Like a few hours before, he the finale of the song is repeated.

Suspicious Minds

Compared to the matinee Elvis presents "Suspicious Minds" with more zest and also moves a bit more.

Introductions

The "Introductions" are more entertaining than in the afternoon.  "The Sweet Inspirations" and "JD Sumner & The Stamps"  are introduced as "The Sweet Ole' Inspirations" and "The Jolly Green Giants". Besides that, all musicians are coming from Texas (Nashville/Texas, Las Vegas/Texas, etc.).

I Can't Stop Loving You

In the afternoon Elvis had presented a very good rendition of "I Can't Stop Loving You", but this one is even better.

Help Me

The king skips "Heartbreak Hotel" and continues with "Help Me", the b-side of his current single "If You Talk In Your Sleep". This is another excellent performance, even better than the studio recording.

An American Trilogy

The patriotic tripple gets the usual outing, jokingly Elvis says "Sing it" in squeaky voice before the choire starts the "I whish I was in Dixie"-part.

Let Me Be There

The tempo is raised with the country-pop "Let Me Be There". It's another great performance, Elvis even repeats the last part of the song.

Funny, How Time Slips Away

Now Elvis has the house lights turned up, because he wants to take a look at his fans. He talks to them for a few moments, then he sings "Funny, How Time Slips Away". Once again the finae is repeated, this time to give JD Sumner another opportunity to show off his deep voice.

Big Boss Man

The good, ole' "Big Boss Man" gets the audience on their feet. Elvis is in his natural element, spurs on the band and obviously has fun. Afterwards Elvis introduces his dad.

How Great Thou Art

While Elvis left out "Heartbreak Hotel", he now adds "How Great Thou Art". The gospel hymn is presented similar to the rendition on his forthcoming album "Elvis Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis". In other words: It's perfect! And just like on the longplayer, he repeats the impressive finale.

Can't Help Falling In Love

The king bows out by telling the crowd, that he had played four shows in Fort Worth and the audience was one of the best he'd ever had. After the soft soap he sings his usual closer "Can't Help Falling In Love" and leaves the stage to the sounds of the "Closing Riff", which is faded out on this compact disc.
