The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

The summer of 2022 saw the release of a tripple-cd called "From Vegas To Tahoe". The set contained two excellent sounding audience recordings made in Las Vegas on January 27, 1973 and February 21, 1973 as well as a soundboard recording of the king's performance on May 12, 1973 in Stateline (near the famous Lake Tahoe). All concerts are the midnight shows of the accordant days.

As usual the sound carriers are housed in a fold out 5" digipak, well designed with photos and reprints of memorabilia. Also as usual it was a physical release only. However, in March 2024 the Memphis Recording Service issued an album called "Elvis At 3:00 AM - Sahara Tahoe, Lake Tahoe 1973". Here you can find the midnight show from May 12th as well as the following special concert, staged at 3:00 am in the morning of the following day. This one originally appeared on FTD's "Taking Tahoe Tonight". Both recordings were turned into fake stereo and are available on various streaming platforms.

The core of this release are the Vegas concerts. It's nice to have a show from the beginning and one from the end of the stint. The first concert is a more or less business-like affair while the king appears to be more loose as the engagement came to the close. Both shows are audience recordings, but they sound better than many concerts taped through the mixing desk. The show from Stateline can be considered to be a bonus, since it doesn't really fit into the concept. However, it's an excellent soundboard recording and the concert itself also is very good.

CD 1: January 27th (Las Vegas)        CD 2: February 21st (Las Vegas)    CD 3: May 12th (Stateline)

Verdict

All three concerts are good ones, even though some of the oldies are performed in a rather business-like fashion.
