The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

On April 13, 2019 Sony Music Entertainment released the show on a vinyl album called "Elvis Live At The International - August 23, 1969". Additionally the medley of "Mystery Train" and "Tiger Man" as well as "Suspicious Minds" were released on a digital single (at the time physical compact discs were still the norm). Back then it was considered to be a special goodie for the "Record Store Day 2019", an event to celebrate vinyl releases. A few weeks later it turned out, that the album and the single were forerunners of the boxed set "Elvis Live 1969".

Blue Suede Shoes

We hear a count-in, then the orchestra starts to play the "Opening Riff". Elvis appears on stage, grabs his guitar and rocks through "Blue Suede Shoes".

I Got A Woman

The king fools around with the word "well" and admits, that it starts slow and tapers off to nothing. Of course it doesn't, today Elvis even toys a bit with the lyrics and the melody.

All Shook Up

"Here I go again. Feels like my horse just left" says the king and also repeats the "well" joke. Then he moves on with a steaming rendition of "All Shook Up".

Love Me Tender

The usual jokes about the sports drink and the "funky angels" in the showroom are followed by a performance of "Love Me Tender", during which several ladies get kissed. Maybe some of them will never wash their faces again.

Jailhouse Rock / Don't Be Cruel

Once again Elvis repeats all the jokes we know from the previous performance, but compared to yesterdays' midnight show the medley is presented with a little less energy.

Heartbreak Hotel

His first number one hit is presented in funny style. At times Elvis stops to sing and of course he also switches the word "lonely" to "horny".

Hound Dog

Now the king claims to have come up with this song when he was asked to present a track with a real deep meaning. The lyrics of "Hound Dog" are pure drivel and of course Elvis knows it. But nevertheless he's able to rock the house and even get the somewhat subdued Vegas crowd on their feet.

Memories

To introduce the next song the king once again comes up with his idea of playing carps with Howard Huges and Kirk Kerkorian. But this time he doesn't continue, so it's not all that funny. Of course he uses "Memories" to kiss a few more ladies, one of them suddenly grabs the singer and causes a minor tumult.

Mystery Train / Tiger Man

Elvis claims to consider his early recordings to be terrible and imitates the sound of shifting gears. He also mentions the recording project and admits, that such noises would appear somewhat strange on a record. Then he rocks through stumping versions of "Mystery Train" and "Tiger Man".

Monologue

Now the king sits down on a chair and says "I'd like to talk to you a little bit" and imitates the noise of a too fast running tape. Then he presents the by now well known monologue about his life and career.

Baby What You Want Me To Do

The r&b tune is presented without any exceptionalities.

Runaway

Elvis plays some "romantic" chords and jokes, that he'd recorded the next song in 1912. He appears to get ready for "Are You Lonesome Tonight", but instead he presents "Runaway". His rendition is not as enthusiastic as yesterday and James Burton also doesn't shine on his guitar as he did during the previous days' midnight show. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid performance by any means, just not as great as the previous one.

Are You Lonesome Tonight

Elvis intones "Loving You", the title song of his second movie. But then he moves on to "Are You Lonesome Tonight", which is presented in serious and romantic style.

Yesterday / Hey Jude

His own mega seller is followed by a medley of two Beatles tracks. As usual Elvis sings about being not half the stud he used to be and even though he uses this joke on a regular basis, he has to laugh about it. The chorus of "Hey Jude" is used to display the abilities of his harmony singers and to kiss some more ladies.

Introductions

Elvis announces "I'd like to say hello to the band" and continues with "Hello band". But of course he introduces all the musicians in a proper way.

In The Ghetto

With a few more jokes the king leads over to "In The Ghetto". Most people consider the track to be his current single, because the follow up ("Clean Up Your Own Backyard" from the forthcoming movie "The Trouble With Girls (And How To Get Into It)") wasn't all that successful.

Suspicious Minds

The king stays with his recent material and presents his new single "Suspicious Minds". It's a real tour de force, Elvis shakes his body in frantic style.

What'd I Say

Today Elvis alters his presentation of "What'd I Say" and doesn't leave the stage. Maybe RCA had asked him to do it that way to get a straight version of the song for the planned live album.

Can't Help Falling In Love

Now the king says "I'd like to do this song especially for you" and the band segues into "Can't Help Falling In Love". Before the audience knows what happens, the curtain comes down and the show is over.
