The ultimate site about the king of the analogue age

Back in 2009 Follow That Dream Records had released the dinner show from August 22nd on the collector's edition of "Elvis In Person". Once again the new mastering and mix works wonders.

Blue Suede Shoes

We hear a count-in, then the musicians begin to play the "Opening Riff", which segues into "Blue Suede Shoes" as Elvis enters the stage and picks up his guitar. He presents the classic with a lot of drive.

I Got A Woman

The king toys around with the word "well" and jokingly tries to wake up his leg. Then he presents a powerful rendition of "I Got A Woman".

All Shook Up

After explaining, that he feels as if his horse just left the rock'n'roll king performs "All Shook Up" in highspeed mode. It has little to do with what he had released on record some 12 years before, but it certainly fits the tempo of the show.

Love Me Tender

Now Elvis welcomes the audience and clowns a bit. He also admits, that he'd gotten something in his eye. Afterwards the king presents a song, which he claims to have recorded in 1927. Of course "Love Me Tender" is used to kiss some eager ladies.

Jailhouse Rock / Don't Be Cruel

Elvis announces to present some of his biggest records, before he jokingly confesses, that they were no bigger than the others. He also makes fun of his aching eye and his running nose. But all these things don't keep him from presenting a zesty version of the "Jailhouse Rock" / "Don't Be Cruel" medley.

Heartbreak Hotel

Without a break the king moves on to "Heartbreak Hotel". He clowns around a bit, in total it's a fine and entertaining rendition of his first national chart topper.

Hound Dog

Elvis announces the message song of the evening and makes up a romantic story about how he serenades a lady with the tune. Of course he belts out a rockin' incarnation of the rock'n'roll classic "Hound Dog". At least he sings four lines or so.

Memories

While singing "Memories" and kissing ladies, the king suddenly spots a familiar face. It's Gladys Tippler, who runs an office of the Crown Electric Company in Memphis. Back in 1953 Elvis had worked for the Tipplers as a truck driver and tried to become an electrician. He soon find's out, that it's her birthday and concratulates her after having finished the performance. It's a cute moment.

Mystery Train / Tiger Man

With a few jokes Elvis introduces the SUN classic "Mystery Train", which he couples with "Tiger Man". At 34 he still can rock the house, that's for sure.

Monologue

The funny monologue follows, the king uses the opportunity to thank the Tipplers for the job.

Baby What You Want Me To Do

Elvis picks up an electric guitar, but claims to be unable to play it. Of course he can (at least to a certain degree) and performs a fine version of "Baby What You Want Me To Do".

Surrender/Runaway

The king hums a few bars of "Surrender", but soon segues into "Runaway". At the time the audience didn't know the Presley version of the tune, it would later appear on the album "On Stage - February 1970".

Are You Lonesome Tonight

Still playing the electric guitar Elvis sings "Are You Lonesome Tonight". It's a tender rendition.

Yesterday / Hey Jude

Without a break the king segues into "Yesterday", which he couples with the na-na-na-part of "Hey Jude". Just like during the previous show, he substitutes the word "man" with "stud".

Introductions

While flirting with some of the ladies at the edge of the stage, one of them hands him the key to her room. Elvis reacts by saying, that he got what he wanted and can leave. Of course he does not and introduces his band instead.

In The Ghetto

The show is continued with "In The Ghetto", the song, which consolidated his commercial comeback.

Suspicious Minds

The ballad is followed by a rousing, six-minute tour de force-version of "Suspicious Minds". Elvis shakes and moves all over the place, it's nothing but stunning.

What'd I Say

Still out of breath the king launches "What'd I Say". In mid-song the show appears to be over and Elvis leaves the stage. But he returns to finish the song before bowing out with a few words.

Can't Help Falling In Love

The real closer is "Can't Help Falling In Love". At the end of the song the curtain comes down and he show is over. In a few hours Elvis will be back and do it all again.
